H.E. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche carries the precious Dudjom Tersar lineage from his grand fatherD udjom Rinpoche and his father Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche, the eldest son of Dudjom Rinpoche who became the main DudjomTersar lineage holder after Dudjom Rinpoche’s Parinirvana. During Dungse Rinpoche’s visit to Nepal in 2011, Tulku Pema Garwang and sponsor Kunzang Lhamu Chungyalpa made representation to Dungse Rinpoche about Khachoed Pema Woeling Nunnery and requested for a qualified teacher. Rinpoche was very pleased and stated that the Khachoed Pema Woeling Nunnery should be the main holder of Dudjom Tersar lineage in Sikkim. Later he also assigned Khenpo Tenzing Lhendup to the nunnery.

The present Khyentse Rinpoche received empowerments and teachings from many great masters including H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche, H.H. the 16th Karmapa,Chatral Rinpoche and many others. Rinpoche’s root guru was DilgoKhyentse Rinpoche who trained Rinpoche from seven years in age. Carrying on in his predecessors’ footsteps, current Khyentse Rinpoche’s activities are numerous and vast in scope. One of his most important projects - 84000 – aims at translating the words of Buddha (Kangyur) in modern languages as number of people who know proper Tibetan are getting less and less. As Rinpoche says –“unless the Kangyur is translated, it will be like having a tree without roots”. Rinpoche’s other major projects are: Siddhartha’s Intent which organizes, distributes and archives Rinpoche’s teachings; Khyentse Foundation mobilizes and provides funding for realization of Rinpoche’s vision andLotus Outreach which supports projects to help refugees and underprivileged women and children.

In March 2020, H.E. JamyangKhyentseRinpoche visited Khachoed Pema WoelingNunnery. The Khachoed Pema Woeling Trust formally offered the nunnery to Rinpoche and requested him to grant it spiritual blessings, guidance, and direction. Out of pure compassion, Rinpoche consented to the request and bestowed ‘Tsa-sum’ (Three roots of Lama, Yidam and Khandro) empowerment in conjunction with the inauguration of the Yeshe Dorje Stupa at the Nunnery. It is our deepest aspiration that with Rinpoche’s blessing and guidance, Khachoed Pema WoelingTsungon will continue to grow and flourish,and will help propagate the Buddha dharma and benefit many sentient beings.
